Frances Guilianna "Fannie" Field was the eighth and youngest child of Elswick Sherwood Field (born 1 June 1808, Randolph County, d. 3 Aug. 1867, Caldwell Co., NC, son of Jeremiah Field and Eleanor Sherwood), and his wife Gulianna Lindsay (born Dec. 30, 1807, Guilford Co., d. March 29, 1885, Kernersville, Forsyth Co., daughter of William Lindsay and Elisabeth Briggs), who were married in Guilford County, NC on 20 Dec. 1831. Fannie married Lewis Erwin Griffith (1852-1914, a son of William Asbury Griffith and Mary Magdelen Carmichael) on 20 Jan. 1876. He was mayor of Kernersville for a time. They had 4 children:

C. Frank Elswick Griffith (1882-1946) m. Bessie Grant Palmer (1887-1974, probably a daughter of Alfred & Mary A. Palmer, 1900 census Rockingham Co., NC) on 20 Feb. 1906. 1 child listed. Pauline Field Griffith, born 13 April 1907. She was, perhaps, Pauline Griffith Smith, who died in High Point on 30 Sept. 1994.
