Lewis Erwin Griffith was a son of William Asbury Griffith and his wife Mary Magdalene Carmichael. He married Frances "Fannie" Guilianna Field (1851-1919) on 20 January 1876. She was a daughter of Elswick Sherwood Field and his wife Guilianna L. Lindsay.

The 1880 census lists him as a buggy manufacturer, living in the household with his wife, a daughter Rosa Griffith, age 3, and 2 servants. At one time, he was Mayor of Kernersville.

Lewis and Fannie had four children:

A. Rosa E. Griffith (1877-1967) m. George Virgil Fulp (1874-1951) on 12 June 1898. 6 children.

B. William Francis Griffith (d. 1881)

C. Frank Elswick Griffith (1882-1946) m. Bessie Grant Palmer (1887-1974) on 20 Feb. 1906. 1 child listed. Pauline Field Griffith, born 13 April 1907. She was, perhaps, Pauline Griffith Smith, who died in High Point on 30 Sept. 1994.

D. Fannie Sue Griffith (1891-1982) m. James Jackson Griffith (1888-1966) on 4 April 1928. One daughter.

Many thanks to Find A Grave contributor Suzannah McCuen (#47283313) who called my attention to the fact that Lewis died at Morganton and not at Kernersville.
