RITES HELD FOR CLARENCE SUNDING

Funeral services were held Friday in our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore, for Clarence Sunding with Pastor Steve Meyer officiating. Burial was in the Highmore City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry, Lawrence, Calvin and Allen Weidenbach, Douglas Quinn and Donald Kutz.

Clarence Alvin Sunding was born August 16, 1906, in northern Hyde County, South Dakota, to Gunder and Margret (Knudtson) Sunding and died Oct 4, 1988 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 82 years, one month and 18 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life-long member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

He was united in marriage to Alvina Voight at Lebanon, south Dakota on March 1, 1933. To this union four children were born.

He and his family ranched and farmed north of Highmore for 41 years, before retiring and moving into Highmore. After moving to town, he continued his hobby of making cabinets and grandfather clocks.

He served on the school and township boards in Douglas Township, was a member of the Hyde County ASCS and was a director for the Hyde County Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include: his wife, Alvina, Highmore; his four children and their spouses: Loren and Marilyn Sunding, Camarillo, California; Joyce and Doyle Thompson, Denton, Texas; Bruce and Linda Sunding, Huron; and John and Kathy Sunding, Kiester, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Daniel T. Sunding, Highmore; and two sisters: Elsie Odegaard and Ella Weidenbach, both of Highmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Leona Weidenbach.
