Funeral services were held January 3, 1995 at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, Camarillo, California, for Loren Neil Sunding.

Loren Neil Sunding was born September 27, 1933, in Highmore, S. Dak., to Clarence and Alvina Sunding and died December 28, 1994, following a long struggle with multiple sclerosis and more recently, cancer, at the age of 61 years, three months and one day. He left his boyhood home to join the Navy. While in the service, he met Marilyn Eames and they were united in marriage in 1957. He graduated from Cal Poly in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering and a new baby, David. Another son, Tom, followed soon after and together the family moved to Camarillo in 1967. He and his wife had their third son, Steve, in 1972.

While living in Camarillo, he worked as an engineer on the Navy's AEGIS project at Port Hueneme. He enjoyed his work and looked to each day. He was an active member of the community, committing time and energy in many areas, including AYSO. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church and Mount Cross Lutheran Church, participating in many ways, including serving on the church council. He also enjoyed camping, writing and working on wood projects. Most of all, he loved his family and friends and made a happy open home for many people to enjoy. His sense of humor, his playfulness, his Midwestern common sense, and his kindness live on in those whose lives he touched. These were the qualities that helped him choose to live through his multiple sclerosis to be a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.

Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn; three sons: David, Tom, and Steve Sunding; a daughter-in-law, Kim; a grandson, Loren; his mother, Alvina Sunding of Highmore, S. Dak.; two brothers: Bruce and Linda Sunding of Huron, S. Dak. and John and Kathy Sunding of Kiester, Minn., and one sister, Joyce and Doyle Thompson of Denton, Texas.
