Leona Mae Sunding was born to Maggie and Gunder Sunding in Hyde County, June 25, 1910. She was baptized November 13, 1910, in Hyde County and was confirmed Lutheran. She held fast to this faith, becoming an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Leona was an active member of Ruth Circle of the American Lutheran Church Women, Countryside Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Hyde County Senior Citizens Center.

She was united in marriage to Leo Albert Weidenbach March 25, 1931, at Pierre. They made their home on a farm near Highmore until the fall of that year when they moved to Lake City, where they resided until 1946. They returned to a ranch north of Highmore and lived there until shortly after her husband's death in 1975. She moved into a home in Highmore, living there until her hospitalization in March, 1980.
