OBITUARY ARTICLE from Vernon County Historical Society:

Elizabeth Appleman, daughter of Jesse and Beulah Appleman, was born March 11, 1840, in Perry county, Ohio. When 14 years of age she came with her parents, to Clinton township, Vernon county, Wisconsin.

On December 2, 1855, she was married to LaFayette Richardson. To this union were born two children, one of whom died in infancy; the other, Mary Ellen Parr, who died September 20, 1910.

On December 4, 1859 she was united in marriage to Henry Smith and moved to a farm near La Farge, where she resided until the year 1900. Since that time she has made her home with her son, David.

Four children came to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, all survive her except one daughter, who died at the age of ten months, and the husband passed away April 22, 1897. Those living are: Mrs. August Gudgeon, John and David Smith, all of LaFarge, Wisconsin.

Besides her immediate family she leaves 22 grand children, 51 great grand children, three half sisters, Mrs. Catherine Edgar of Dell, Mrs. Jeff Perkins of Westby and Ms. Jane Wallace of Ontario and two half brothers, George and Phil Appleman, both of Westby, besides a hosgt of other relatives and friends.

She was converted and joined the Methodist church in Ohio in 1852. After coming to Wisconsin she united with the Methodist church at Salem and later with the United Brethren church at Otterdale, where she continued her membership until the time of her death, which occurred February 14, 1926, aged 85 years, 11 months and three days.

Funeral services were held at Salem Ridge church, Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. P. Stone of La Farge, assisted by Rev. Wilson of Dell and Rev. W. N. Smith of La Farge. The body was laid to rest in Salem Ridge Cemetery.
