Jesse Appleman, son of George Appleman and Margaret Cox, was born February 8, 1815, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and died April 13, 1893, in Vernon County, Wisconsin. Jesse was married four times and had 16 children by his first three wives.

Jesse Appleman & Beaulah Elizabeth Pettit.

On March 3, 1836, in Morgan County, Ohio, Jesse married Beaulah Pettit, daughter of John Pettit and Sarah Morris. She was born December 20, 1815, in Morgan County, Ohio, died April 15, 1852, and is buried in Zion Cemetery, Portersville, Perry County, Ohio. Their children were:

II 2 Elizabeth, who married Lafayette Richardson & Henry Smith.
II 3 Margaret, who married Henry Bausman.
II 4 John William, born in Ohio in 1844.

II 6 Sarah Ellen, born 1849, in Ohio, who married William Wakeman.
II 7 Caroline, who died in infancy.

1850 U.S. Census, Deerfield Township, Morgan County, Ohio, September 26, 1850, Page 219, Line 33, Family 1577/1577. In that census Jesse Appleman was listed as a 34 year old Pennsylvania born farmer with $1500 worth of real estate and living with his 34 year old wife Bulah and their six children: 12 year old Lucinda; 10 year old Elizabeth; 8 year old Margaret; 6 year old John; 4 year old Mary and 1 year old Susan Appleman. Bulah and the children were all born in Ohio.

Jesse Appleman & Christina Clarissa Smith

In 1854, in Ohio, probably Morgan County, Jesse married Christina Clarissa Smith, born November 7, 1830, in Ohio, daughter of Henry Smith and Delphina Eva Baer. She died November 29, 1863, in Bloomingdale, ____? Christina's brother, Henry Smith, married Elizabeth Appleman Richardson. Their children were:

II 13 Jacob H., born in 1861, in Wisconsin.
II 14 George W., born in 1862, in Wisconsin, who married Mary Elizabeth Hughes.

In the 1860 U.S. Census, Jesse Appleman was listed as a 45 year old Ohio born farmer with $6000 worth of real estate and $1900 worth of personal property, living in Webster Town, Bad Axe County, Wisconsin, with his 37 year old Ohio born wife Christina and their children: John, age 16; Audrey, age 13; Sarah, age 11; Matilda, age 6; Eva, age 5; Maya, age 3; and 6 months old Civilla Appleman.

Jesse Appleman & Mary Adline McMichael Crawford Graham

On June 17, 1864, in Bad Axe County (now Vernon), Wisconsin, Jesse married Mary Adline McMichael Crawford Graham, born 1819, in Virginia, who died January 30, 1883, in Webster, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Buried in Bloomington Cemetery. Her son Ebert Crawford, by her first marriage, was adopted by her second husband John Graham. The first name of her first husband is unknown as are her parents. Jesse and Mary Appleman's children were:

II 15 Phillip, born in 1861, in Wisconsin, who married Hannah Ballsrud and Rose Mae Hughes.
II 16 Robert Jacob, born in 1868, in Wisconsin.
II 17 James W., born in 1864, in Wisconsin. (possible son, but not confirmed)

In the 1870 U.S. Census, Jesse Appleman was listed as a 56 year old farmer with $6000 worth of real estate and $4300 worth of personal property, living in the Town of Webster, Vernon County, Wisconsin, with his 47 year old wife Mary and their children: Catharine, age 15; Eva, age 13; Massa, age 11; Lyvilla, age 10; Jacob, age 9; George, age 8; James, age 6; Philip, age 7; and 2 year old Robert Appleman. Also listed with the family was 15 year old Wisconsin born Eber Graham.

The next family listed in this census was the family of George W. Brown and his children, Margaret E. and Simeon Brown.

In the 1880 U.S. Census, Jesse Appleman was listed as a 65 year old farmer living in the Town of Webster, Vernon County, Wisconsin, with his 56 year old wife Mary and their children: L. Jane, age 20; Henry, age 16; George, age 15; Philip, age 13, and 12 year old Robert Appleman.

Jesse Appleman & Sarah (Mary) Schoonover

On December 14, 1884, in Bad Ax County (now Vernon), Wisconsin, Jesse married Sarah (Mary) Schoonover, daughter of Levi and Martha Schoonover. Sarah was born 18 Jan 1843 in Athens Co OH and died 25 Jun 1918 Athens Co OH. She was buried in Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH. No known children.

According to the book, Memories of Vernon County, Volume 2, Sarah Appleman survived her husband and returned to Ohio.
