VERNON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OBITUARY ARTICLE: Matilda C. Appleman-Edgar
Matilda C. Appleman-Edgar was born at Columbus, Ohio, on August 12, 1854, and passed away at the home of her son, Herman, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on July 31st, 1929, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 19 days.
When yet in her early youth she migrated to Wisconsin, with her parents and settled on a farm near Bloomingdale, where she grew to womanhood, and later was married to John W. Edgar, and then made her new home on Weister Creek, Vernon County, for many years, and where she contracted many friends.
She was a kind and generous mother and loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Edgar was afflicted with ill health and was a patient sufferer for a number of years.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters, Lester of Wibaux, Montana; Perley of Readstown, Wisconsin; Herman and Ethel of La Crosse, Wiscocnsin, and Mrs. C. N. Ward, of La Farge, Wisconsin. Also two sisters, two brothers, four grand-children, one great grand-child and a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn her departure.
Mr. Edgar and two children, Ottie and Madgie, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted at the Dell Church, on Saturday, August 3rd, 1929, by the Rev. Guy W. Campbell, of LaCrosse. She was laid to rest in the Dell Cemetery.
