Obit: Edwin Newton Rhoads, 75, 1501 South Main Street, died at 8:20 p.m., Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Malin, near Centerville. He was taken to his daughter's home Thursday following a heart attack at his home at 2:30 p.m. He was born in Blakesburg, December 22, 1865, the son of Daniel and Susan Rhoads, and was married to Miss Elizabeth Nevins, February 16, 1887. he lived near Eddyville for more than 50 years and moved to Centerville September 2, 1939. His wife died June 17, 1940, and he was also preceded in death by two sons, two grandchildren, five sisters, a brother. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs J.E. Hughes of Eddyville, Mrs. Milo Smith of Bussey, Mrs. Harry Malin of Centerville and Mrs. Fred Malin of near Centerville: four sons, Carl and Cecil Rhoads of Milwaukie, Oregon, Ivan Rhoads of Oskaloosa and Arthur Rhoads of Gary, Indiana, 28 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three brothers. The body was brought to the Beckner Funeral Home and funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m., Sunday in charge The Rev. C.W. Grim of the Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, 13 miles north of Albia, beside his wife. Ottumwa Daily Courier, January 17, 1941
