RIDGEWAY – William "Billy" McGann, age 69, of Ridgeway, passed away on Saturday morning, March 29, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital of Iowa County.

He was born on March 24, 1928, in Iowa County, the son of John and Stella (Ryan) McGann. He was a lifelong resident of the Ridgeway area and a 1946 graduate of Ridgeway High School. He served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956, and in 1971 he married Betty Zander. They farmed on the McGann Farm south of Ridgeway until retirement.

He is survived by his former wife, Betty; a son, William McGann Jr. and his good friend Leanne, both of Madison; two stepsons, Lonnie Yapp of Ridgeway and Dennis (Terry) Yapp of McFarland; five stepdaughters, Kathleen (Gary) Johnson of Ridgeway, Linda Bennett of Stoughton, Julie (Scott) Swenson of Stoughton, Tammy (Mark) Fellows of Clovis, New Mexico, and Lou (Gary) Klingman of Stoughton; 17 step-grandchildren; and four sisters, Anna Marie Callahan of Madison, Mary Jane (Darrell) Rounds of Monona, Shirley (Dean) Murphy of Ridgeway and Carolyn (Bob) Cullen of Ridgeway. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John McGann. Billy endured a long illness courageously.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ridgeway. Father Donald Moran will officiate. Friends may call on Monday, March 31, 1997, at the Ayers Funeral Home in Ridgeway, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be held at 8:00 p.m. A graveside Veteran's Military Service by the Iowa County veterans will be held at St. Bridget's Cemetery following the church service.
