Ridgeway - Shirley Mae Murphy, age 74, of Ridgeway, with soul mate at her side, passed away on Monday January 11, 2010 at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville. She was born on May 28, 1935 to John & Estelle (Ryan) McGann. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1953 and in 1955, married the love of her life, Clyde Dean Murphy. Together they farmed for many years. After moving to town they owned & operated Murphy Oil, then Ridgeway Builders where Shirley was a key partner, keeping books, painting & staining, whatever it took to make these businesses a success. Shirley also worked at Lands' End until her retirement. She was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, cooking, long walks, fishing, and traveling. She especially liked the annual trip to Arizona to follow the Cubs spring training. Above all, Shirley loved spending time with family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dean; her children, Mark (Carol) Murphy of Highland, Cheryl (Don) Parks of Ridgeway, Lori (Todd) Griffiths of Cuba City, and Paul (Krista) Murphy of Ridgeway; her grandchildren, Brandon and Sienna Murphy, Lindsay (Aziz) Sereme, Dominic Parks, Bridget (Matt) Carter, Ashley Parks, Haley (Jeff) Speth, Jessica Griffiths, Heather Weier, Mitchell, Tyler, and Brooklyn Murphy; her sisters, Mary Jean (Darryl) Rounds and Carolyn (Bob) Cullen; her sisters-in-law, Betty McGann and Lillian McGann. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, William and John McGann and her sister, Anna Marie (Gene) Callahan.

Shirley spent her final years battling Alzheimer's. For many years, Dean took loving care of her at home. For the last seven years, Shirley was in the caring hands of the unbelievable staff at Bloomfield Manor. Dean made daily visits throughout Shirley's stay and could always rest assured that in his absence, she was receiving the best care possible. Words cannot express how grateful we all are for their compassion. In the final days, the love and care they showed is beyond words.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ridgeway. Father Peter Auer will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery.
