Carolyn, age 71, of Ridgeway, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville, after a long battle with cancer. She was born the daughter of John & Estelle (Ryan) McGann. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1956 and in 1957, married her longtime sweetheart, Robert Cullen. Together they farmed for many years where Carolyn dedicated herself to assure that her family was cared for, along with the upkeep of the homestead and gardens. She worked for Lands' End until her retirement. When not working, her favorite pastime was watching her grandchildren grow, and was always concerned for their well-being. In retirement Carolyn often vacationed with her husband frequently taking in the entertainment of Branson and Las Vegas. She enjoyed going for long walks, gardening and especially cooking for her family. Carolyn continued to give assistance in the upbringing of her grandchildren. She treasured her lifelong friendships, traditions and day trips with her husband. She especially enjoyed, for many years, attending all of her family's activities. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bob; her children, Julie (Todd) Martin of Dodgeville, WI, Jean (Tim) Solberg of Ridgeway, WI, and Jason Cullen of Dodgeville, WI; her grandchildren, Jenna (Jason) Palzkill, Elizabeth Martin, Katherine Martin, Lucas Solberg, Leah (John Kieler) Solberg, Jackson Cullen and Danni Hess; great-grandchildren, Allison and Clayton; her sister, Mary Jean (Darryl) Rounds; her sisters-in-law, Lillian McGann and Betty McGann; and brother-in-law, Dean Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William and John McGann; her sisters, Anna Marie (Gene) Callahan and Shirley Murphy; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Hess Cullen. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ridgeway. Father Peter Auer will officiate. Memorials to St. Bridget's Church Window Reconstruction or to Upland Hills Hospice would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff of Upland Hills Hospice and Bloomfield Manor for their dedicated and compassionate care. Also, a special thanks to Father Auer for his visits and dedication to Carolyn and her family. Gorgen-McGinley and Ayers Funeral Home, Dodgeville assisted with arrangements.
