A tale relates that Simeon Rhorer had to have a leg amputated after an injury, and the limb was then buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Simeon (the rest of him) was buried at Hartsville College Cemetery, after his death in 1902.

Simeon Rhorer, aged between seventy-five and eighty years, died to-day at noon, at his home in Hartsville. He was a brother of Mrs. Mobley, widow of the late Prof. Mobley, and was well known throughout this and adjoining counties.
He was born near the county line in Decatur county and resided in Hartsville for the last ten years. He was a member of the United Brethren church. He had been feeble for a long time, and death was caused by kidney trouble.
