Columbus, Indiana
Sat., Nov. 12, 1921
Mrs. Sarah Rhorer, 92 years old, widow of the late Simeon Rhorer, and said to be the oldest woman resident of the county, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of Miss Ella Beam in Hartsville, following a two months' illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Hartsville United Brethren church. Burial in Hartsville cemetery.
Mrs. Rhorer had lived in this county since a small girl. She was born in Kentucky but came here with her parents, and she is the last of a large family to die, her only brother, James Collier, having died here a few months ago. She was a widely known and highly esteemed woman, and greatly liked by her neighbors and friends. She was a member of the United Brethren church and a charter member of the Hartsville W.C.T.U., and in both organizations she was an active worker.
Mr. Rhorer died about eighteen years ago, and for the past several years, Mrs. Rhorer made her home with Miss Beam, who is relative. She was taken ill last September, and her death was due to her advanced age.
Five generations were represented in Mrs. Rhorer's family before her death, including her own son and daughter, William Rhorer of Hope, and Mrs. A.F. Venner, of near Hartsville, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, the latter being Marilyn Ogden, two year old daughter of William Ogden of Hartsville, all of whom survive.
