Members of this family changed the surname spelling from Rohrer to Rhorer, in the mid-1800s. Graves at Mt. Pleasant are marked both ways, although they are entered uniformly here for search purposes. John Rhorer's father, Jacob ROHRER died in Jessamine Co., Kentucky, and listings there usually use the archaic spelling.

John Rhorer had moved from Maryland to Kentucky by the early 1800s; he married Barbara Roush Dillman Aug. 31, 1808 in Bracken Co., Kentucky. Two children were born in Jessamine Co., Kentucky, then they next resided about twenty years in Clermont Co., Ohio (ca. 1812-1832). Their last move was to Decatur Co., Indiana in the 1830s.
