Zina Edward Basham
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Zina Edward Basham, 97, formerly of Jumping Branch, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Born Feb. 3, 1907, in Summers County, he was the son of the late Aden and Ollie Pack Basham.
He lived the early part of his life in Summers County. He moved to Maryland in 1950 and worked for Eastern Box Co., Union Camp and Federal Paper Board. In 1972, he retired and returned to West Virginia until moving to Florida in 2003.
He enjoyed his family, church, gardening and telling stories about the past. He was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church at Jumping Branch.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Leta Thurmond and Eula Basham.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lilly Basham, whom he married June 12, 1929; three daughters, Julia Paterson of Clearwater, Dolores Francis of Crownsville, Md., and Mary Phillips of Dale City, Va.; two sons, Edward Basham of Elkridge, Md., and Dempsey Basham of Clearwater; two brothers, Luther and Oscar Basham, both of Jumping Branch; a sister, Irene Gibbons of Clarksville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bluestone Baptist Church, Jumping Branch, with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Basham Family Cemetery, Ellison.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton, and one hour before service Saturday at the church.
