Born 30 May 1912 in Saint Martin, MN; Ferdinand was the eighth of nine children born to Valentine & Josephine (Braun) Haehn.

On 10 October 1938, Ferdinand married Cecilia Mary Flint in Roscoe, MN; they were both age 26. Born 14 September 1912 in Roscoe, MN; she was the seventh of nine children born to Barney & Elizabeth (Braegelmann) Flint.

Called "Nannie" by friends & family – a name given to him by his younger sister, Martha when she was beginning to talk. He worked as a finishing carpenter for nearly thirty years for Preusser Construction.

In 1954, Ferdinand purchased an 80-acre hobby farm where he intended to retire. But at the age of sixty, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer which developed into bone cancer. He went to the Mayo Clinic to get treatments that were not available locally.

Ferdinand died from his cancer on 22 April 1975 in Saint Cloud, MN at age 62.
