On 16 October 1928, Rose married Michael John Thelen, in St. Martin, MN; she was age 28, he was 33. Born on 11 Jun 1895 in Farming (Township), MN; Michael was the third of eleven children born to John & Katherine (Heinen) Thelen.
Rose completed high school in three years and taught high school English while a senior in college. She earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Benedict's College in Saint Joseph, MN. Rose was a skilled violinist & wrote poetry, which was published in the Saint Ben's literary magazine. Her daughter, Joyce, shared: "Mother taught school after graduating from Saint Ben's, then didn't teach again until Stephen was eight years old. At this time she accepted a position in a country school (her heart seemed to lie in the one-room school house) where she taught boys & girls alike to knit and embroider as well as to read and write... teaching eye-hand coordination she called it. She loved to teach and her students did well when they entered high school. When the Saint Martin country school closed (one of the last to close in Minnesota), she taught in the elementary school in Saint Joseph, MN until retirement."
Rose died in Saint Cloud, MN at age 80.
