Sarah and Stephen Chitwood were married on February 27, 1834 in Tennessee. They have 2 daughters while living in Tennesse Frances and Lucinda. The family then moves on to Marion County, Illinois where they are farmers. While in Marion County they have 6 more children Boland, William, Stephen, James, Overton, Catherine and Harvey. William dies in Marion County before the family moves on to Collin County, Texas in the early 1850's. There last child Galen is born in Collin County around the Highland area where the family is once again farming and in 1856 Overton dies.

Sarah is widowed on April 26, 1859 and sometime in the 1860's moves with her children to Centre Creek,Jasper County, Missouri area. Her daughters Frances and Lucinda are married at this time and remain in Texas. It is possible that Sarah did not leave Texas until after the death of her daughter Lucinda Yardley in December of 1863.
