Bertha Moberly Wick, daughter of Charles Epperson and Nancy Wood Moberly, was born a twin to Elvin Lawrence Moberly. They were born in Black Hawk County, Iowa. In October, 1875, she moved with her parents to Mahaska county, Iowa. During her seventeenth year she united with the Methodist church in Peoria, Iowa. In the spring of 1891 she moved with her parents to Lester, Iowa. She married Henry A. Wick 21 Dec. 1893 in Lester, Lyon Co., Iowa. Five children were born to them, one dying as an infant, Elvin Ealon, Harold Francis, Maruine Bertha and Maurine's twin was stillborn. For the last, she gave her life. In the capacities of wife, mother, sister and daughter she proved herself faithful and true, a devoted Christian, ever manifesting in life the real Christ spirit. Her life in the home was like that of Martha, but with this she blended the peculiar devotion of Mary for her Lord. Her last hours were especially bright. On Friday night those about the beside thought the end had come. Her words were: "Mother, I see the Savior now. His arms are stretched out to me. Don't you see him?" The next day she told those in attendance about the beautiful vision of the night before. She said that none could describe the beauty of the heavenly land and said how she wished to go, but could not leave the husband and the children. She gradually grew worse and passed peacefully two days later.
