Elvin and his twin sister Bertha were born in Black Hawk Co., Iowa to Charles Epperson and Nancy Wood Moberly. The family moved to Mahaska Co.,Iowa abt. 1880 and then on to Lyon Co. He married Stella Mae Spencer in 1894 and to this union three daughters were born, Carolyn Mae Moberly Nathan, Edith Viola Moberly Miner and Vivian Marie Moberly Teague. Elvin was a farmer in Iowa and traveled to many places looking for land to invest in. The family moved to Watertown, South Dakota where he worked for L.W. Cooke's Music House, as a piano salesman. With two daughters married they decided to move to California. It was here that he bought and owned his own business. He sold and repaired sewing machines. He was active in the Methodist church and was well liked by all who knew him.
