Gladys Marie Silvrants

Gladys Silvrants was born on Nov. 4, 1912 in Chase County south of Elsie, Neb. She was the youngest of nine children born to Alva and Lou Ella(Dinnel)Terry. Gladys grew up on the farm and attended rural school. As a young girl Gladys enjoyed riding a horse to do her chores. She took a harmonica with her on the horse where she learned to play. The family wouldn't let her play inside the house because it was too noisy but she said the horse didn't mind the music. She was a good worker and was able to do most of the chores that the men did. Gladys was married to Oliver Silvrants in Holyoke, Colo. on April 29, 1931. They lived in the Elsie and Grant, Neb. communities before they moved to their home on the highway north of Grant in 1955.
Gladys worked for Goodalls in Ogallala and later worked as a cook at the Perkins County Hospital until she retired. In addition to her own work, she helped Oliver with the farming and raising her flowers. She always preferred to be outdoors.Gladys enjoyed quilting and she made each one of her immediate family members a quilt. Gladys moved from her home north of Grant to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in 2006. She died at Golden Ours on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at the age of 97. In addition to her parents and siblings, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter- Lenora Lashley and a grandson, Jesse Lashley.
She is survived by two sons Archie and wife Alene and Roger and wife Charlotte; son-in-law Ted Lashley-all of Grant; 11 grandchildren: Sonja Redmond, Becky Newman, Lisa Weston; James, Jerry, Julie, and John Silvrants; Danika Sobotka, Valerie Harrington, Buril Hardin, and Amber Barnett; 15 great-grandchilden and several great-great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Savage officiating.
Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. A memorial to Golden Ours Convalescent Home has been established.
