Lenora "Sam" Lashley was born at Madrid, Neb., on Nov. 13, 1932. She was the oldest of three children born to Oliver and Gladys Terry Silvrants. She received her schooling in Madrid and Grant, Neb.

Sam was married to Ted Lashley on Dec. 18, 1950 at Sterling, Colo. They made their first home in Trenton, Neb. where Ted was involved in construction and later followed the construction to Wyoming. The family moved to Galveston, Texas where Ted became involved in commercial deep-sea fishing. In 1969 they moved to Alaska and continued with the commercial fishing. During the winters they made their home in Seattle, Wash., where they were involved in boat construction for sale and for personal use. Sam was active in the design and the management of this business.

Later they spent time in Florida where they owned and managed an orange grove. Ted and Sam travelled extensively during their married life and saw all of the continental United States and the provinces of Canada. They had purchased an acreage north of Grant three years ago and moved back to be closer to her family.

She suffered an apparent heart attack late Monday night, March 31, 2003 at home and was taken to the Perkins County Community Hospital where she was declared dead. She had reached the age of 70.

Sam experienced many things during her life. She was a small airplane pilot. She enjoyed and was comfortable driving a motorcycle. She was organized and diligent in all of their business ventures. She loved wildlife, especially birds and always made an effort to provide food and water for them. She also had a special relationship with her poodles.

Sam was preceded in death by her father and her son, Jesse Joe Lashley.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ted; three daughters, Sonja and husband Tom Redmond of Soldotna, Alaska, Rebecca and husband Don Newman of Kenai, Alaska, and Lisa and husband Crey Weston of Morriston, Fla.; six grandchildren; her mother, Gladys and two brothers, Archie and wife Alene Silvrants and Roger and wife Charlotte Silvrants, all of Grant; other relatives and friends.

Committal services were held Friday, April 4, at the Fairview Cemetery at Grant with John Long officiating. Casket bearers were Bob Lashley, Buril Hardin, Crey Weston, Roger Silvrants, Randy Sobotka, and Walter Harrington.
