Passing of Another of the Old Settlers
----------------------------------------------------
Severt Olaus Wierson was born Oct. 8, 1859 at Lisbon, Illinois, the son of Ole and Voljes Wierson. He died at his home March 7, 1930 at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 29 days.

He emigrated to Iowa when he was only 6 months old with his parents in 1860, making the trip overland in a covered wagon driving oxen. They settled on a farm 1 half mile west of Roland where he grew to manhood. He was confirmed by Rev. N. Amlund in the old St. Petri Church in. 1874, this being the last confirmation in that church.

On March 8, 1884, he was united in marriage to Tilla Sophia Williamson from Sondhordland, Norway. Nine children were born to this union. One daughter, Ella Gurine died May 23, 1899. Those who are left to mourn the departed are his wife, and Mrs. Nettie Barka of Litchfield, Minnesota; Willie, Nels, Mrs. Tena Lee and Henry, of Radcliffe, Iowa; Eamel of Waterloo, Iowa; Silas and Alma at home; and nineteen grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Betsy Olson of Belgrade, Minnesota, and two brothers, Wier of Roland, Iowa and Ben of Los Angeles, California. His father, mother, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

After his marriage, the deceased lived for forty-six years on his farm in Hardin County, four and one-half miles southwest of Radcliffe, where he lived until his death. He had been ill with heart disease for the last year. Early Friday morning at 1:20 a.m., he passed away. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

"Not lost, not dead, not gone, not even sleeping,
Though we have laid them in the grave with weeping;
No sharp despair our chastened hearts can fill;
For they are with us still."

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the house and at 2:00 o'clock in Bergen Church, Roland, Iowa, Rev. Olaf Holen being in charge. Interment took place in Roland Cemetery. Pallbearers were his sons, Willie, Nels, Henry, Silas, and Eamel and his son-in-law, Nels O. Lee.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. T.T. Barka, Miss Cornettie Barka, Miss Tillie Barka, Mr. Thomas Barka, and Mr. Reuben Lindell, all of Litchfield, Minnesota; Mr. William Rasmussen of Hutchinson, Minnesota; Mr. And Mrs. Walter Olson of Paynesville, Minnesota; Mrs. S.D. Olson and Miss Mabel Olson of Belgrade, Minnesota; also other relatives and friends.
