Services for Mrs. S.O. Wierson Held at Roland Sunday Afternoon

Thalia Sofie Wierson, the daughter of Vilhelm and Serina Halverson, was born Feb. 16, 1866 in Kvalvag, Norway, and passed away after a lingering illness at her home in Roland, Iowa, Feb. 1, 1956, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

She came to America in 1881 and in 1884 was united in marriage to Severt Olaus Wierson, the Rev. C.B. Jacobson officiating. They lived on a farm near Radcliffe. Her husband passed away March 7, 1930. She moved to Roland in 1941 where she resided until the time of her death. She was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church 72 years.

Mrs Wierson leaves to mourn her passing: seven children: Mrs. Nettie Barka, Litchfield, Minn., Mrs. Olava Lee, Story City, Mrs. Arnie (Alma) Osmundson, Webster City, Willie, Nels and Eamel, Radcliffe, and Silas of Roland. Two children preceded her in death, Ella Gurina in 1899 and Henry in 1945, also two sisters and three brothers.

She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, William Williamson, Havre, Mont., Sarah Moe, Great Falls, Mont., and Nels Williamson, Ellen Stromsvold and Martha Sandenoo of Norway: also 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. S.O. Wierson were held Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2:00 p.m at the Erickson Funeral Home and 2:30 at Bergen Lutheran Church at Roland. Rev. Allen E. Nelson officiated at the services, Otto Hanson sang "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" at the funeral home, and "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Den Store Hvide Flok" at the church.

The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Thomas Barka, Reuben Barka, Wallace Wierson, Norris Wierson, Alfred Wierson, and Wallace Iverson. Interment was n the Roland Cemetery.

Among those from a distance in attendance at the services were Mr and Mrs. Marlin Norene, Mark and Dean, Mrs. Reuben Lindell, Thomas Barka and Larry, all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Aaron Barrick of Darwin, Minn.; Reuben Barka, Litchfield, Minn; many other relatives and friends from Ames, Webster City, Clear Lake, Alden, Nevada, Union, Garden City, Jewell, Story City, Ellsworth and Radcliffe.
