Ralph was born August 26, 1920 at Mercier in Brown County, the son of Edward and Oda Dorei Schuetz and was a lifelong Brown County resident. He grew up near Mercier where he attended Mercier and later Powhattan schools. Ralph was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving 27 months in the European Theater of Operations with the 8th Fighter Command, discharged at the rank of corporal in 1946. Ralph worked in the Pontiac-Cadillac dealership in Hiawatha with his brother Walter for a number of years. In 1970, he purchased Paige Arnold Clothing, a men's store in Hiawatha, which he and his wife Ruth operated until they retired in 1984.
Mr. Schuetz was a long time member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Hiawatha; and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He married Ruth Felts July 12, 1950 at Mercier. She survives at the home.
Also surviving are a son Tom Schuetz and wife Debbie, also of Hiawatha; Three sisters Wilma Winkelbauer and Phyllis Sturm, both of Horton, Patricia Christie of Topeka; Three grandsons: Ian Schuetz, Evan Schuetz, and Kale Schuetz.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; two sons James Schuetz as a toddler, Jerry Schuetz in 1972; four brothers Victor, Walter, Howard, Floyd; and a sister Thelma McClaskey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Wednesday, December 24, at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Hiawatha. Abbott Ralph Koehler will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha
