Leo Bowen Dies at 56
Funeral services for Leo Leland Bowen, 56, who died at 1:45 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital from a heart attack, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church, the Rev. Rawlin Johnson officiating.

Mr. Bowen had been in failing health the last two years.

He was born Feb. 28, 1907, in McCallsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bowen. He received his education in the Iowa Falls and Dows area schools and in April 8, 1945, was married to Jane Hulda Ballard in Estherville.

He was employed in the Dows area before coming to Estherville in 1934.

Here he was employed by Tobin and John Morrell & Co. packing plants for 26 years. About a year ago he was awarded his 25-year certificate and a watch.

Mr. Bowen was a member of Union Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his widow, Jane of Estherville, a daughter, Marilyn, two sons, Clarence LeRoy and Lee, all at home, two brothers, Clarence and Burtis LeRoy both of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Leo, who was killed by a care when he was five years old.

Burial will be in East side Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese Funeral Home from noon Sunday until noon on Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 15, 1964)
