Solomon Smith Hale was born February 15, 1849, the second son of Vinton & Elizabeth Smith Hale. He was named after his maternal grandfather Solomon Smith. He never married. By occupation he was a horticulturist, he and his brother Frank are credited with discovering or designing the Hale Haven Peach. Solomon owned a farm across the road from the one first owned by his father, then passed on to his brother Harvey. Solomon died December 20, 1933.
