Elva Hale was the first child of Vinton & Elizabeth Smith Hale, born in 1845 in Gallia Co. Ohio. An exact date hasn't been found. She married Henry Gee September 1, 1870 in Knox Co. Illinois. They had 3 children: William Harley, known as Harley, Jessie, & Mary Viola. An exact date of Elva's death has never been found, but Harley said he was 6 years old when his mother died. He was born late in 1871, probably hadn't had his birthday yet in 1877. The family said Elva was buried in the Hermon Methodist Cemetery, but her tombstone, if there was one, hasn't survived. Elva's parents raised her daughters, & her brother Marquis raised Harley following her death.
