Mary Alice or Ann Pope d/o Cyrus Waterman Pope and Nancy Jane Brown. She was born in Centerville, Oakwood Twp., Linn Co., Kansas. Her parents left for just a year or two for Kansas to homestead but returned to Wisconsin. This is where her father Cyrus Waterman Pope and brother Virgil Pardon Pope joined Union forces from state of Kansas. Both received Civil War pensions.

Mary Alice Pope married Fred Millard in 1877 probably Sparta, Monroe Co., WI. In 1880 they are living next door to Virgil P. Pope her brother and his family in Sparta, Monroe Co., WI. They spend their remaining years farming in Sparta area.
They had 10 children:

Feb. 1920 Mary Ann Pope was born in Kansas on April 1, sixty years ago and died of pneumonia at her home three miles north of Sparta, Feb. 12, 1920. She was married to Fred Millard in 1877 and became the mother of ten children, all but one of whom survive. They are: H.L.Millard and Mrs. Jane Fish of Sparta, Mrs. Clara Emery of Janesville, Orie Millard of Ironwood, Michigan, Reuben and Minnie Millard of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Ben Wood of Muscatine, Iowa, Edwin Millard of Davenport, Iowa, and Dellmar Millard, living with his parents. She is also survivied by her husband and by one sister and one brother, Mrs. Clara Waughtal of Black River Falls, and Virgil Pope of Sparta.
Mrs. Millard's entire married life of forty-three years were spent on the farm in the town of Sparta, where death overtook her, with the exception of five years when the family lived in Iowa. The funeral was held from the residence of her son, H.L. Millard. Rev. Wilbur F. Tomlinson officiating. Burial was made at the Angelo Cemetery. All the surviving children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Emery, whose own iliness detained her at home.
