Obituary for Clara E. Waughtal and step-daughter Mrs. L.P.Hill in St. Croix County Public Library.

Obituary: "Banner-Journal" Black River Falls, Wisconsin, March 7, 1945 Clara E. Waughtal
Clara E. Pope was born near Viroqua, Wis., Oct 4, 1857.
After becoming old enough to work out she was employed by a Sparta glove factory for a number of years.
On July 16, 1875 she was united in holy matrimony to George W. Waughtal of the town of Manchester, Jackson Co., Wis., where they resided until 1897. During this time six sons were born to them, all of whom passed on before her except the youngest L.E. Waughtal, of Roberts.
In 1897 they sold their farm and moved into Black River Falls, building a home, and residing there till 1904 when they acquired another farm in Oak Ridge, living there till 1914 when they again sold their farm and moved to Pleasant View, where her husband died in 1920. She has since lived with an adopted daughter, Mrs. Arthur Straight, recently of Warrens, Wis., except for a number of years that she spent between her oldest son, Fred, of North Dakota, and L. E. Waughtal of Roberts, at whose home she passed away Feb. 17, 1945, at the age of 87 years. Bronchial pneumonia was the cause of death.
Clara E. Waughtal will be long remembered for her goodness and her kindness to her family and in times of sickness and death of neighbors far and wide. She lived in the days when nurses were scarce, and many nights (the writer remembers), she was called to go to some neighbor's home and maybe the next morning I would hear that the stork had left a new baby at the home, or that some one had passed away or some one was better. Many people will remember her sure, cool way of handling any situation in sickness and death, and the relief and reassurance that her presence brought.
Mrs. Waughtal leaves to mourn her loss her son and daughter-in-law, three grandaughters, Mrs. Ella Standish of Racine; Mrs. Clara Roberts, of Roberts; Mrs. Edna Swan; now teaching at Edgerton; two grandsons; Earl with Army Air Force, in England, and David, of Roberts; a number of grandchildren in Canada, also six great-grandchildren, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Arthur Straight, of Warrens, and a host of friends in and around Black River Falls-Roberts Exchange.
This obituary given to me by Mary Paul of Val Caron, Ontario, Canada, descendant of Frederick Waughtal and Ella Nina King.
