Howard Lowell (Tom) Allen, 61, of Bramwell, died Saturday in a Bluefield hospital following a long illness.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late U. S. Grant and Rhoda Reed Allen. He was a former coal miner, having retired in 1962. He was a member of UMWA Local Union 6193 and had been a lifelong resident of Bramwell.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ethel Byrd Allen; one daughter, Mrs. Buddy (Linda) Pennington of Bramwell; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Owens and Mrs. Beatrice Dunn of Waynesboro, Va., Mrs. Pearl Goins of Bramwell and Mrs. Jane Hatter of Duhring; three brothers, Frank, Don and Forrest Allen of Bramwell and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Tony Spinella officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell.
Pallbearers: Robert Cook, Eugene Lawrence, Garnet Riddle, Ray Cook, Ray Hill, Howard Goins.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
