George Leonard Allen, 70, of Matoaka, died last Friday at his home, following a long illness.
Allen had been a Deputy Sheriff of Mercer County for 16 years. He was also a member of the UMWA.
Born October 12, 1899 in Bramwell, he was a son of the late Ulysses Simpson Grant and Rhoda Reed Allen.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elsie Williams Allen' one son Joe Allen of Matoaka; four daughters, Mrs. Zenith Hawks of South Charleston, W.V., Mrs. Betty Wyatt of Greenbelt, Md., Mrs. Virginia Epperly of Beaver, WV., and Mrs. Margaret Cook of Norfolk, Va.; four brothers, Thomas, Frank, Donald and Forrest Allen, all of Bramwell; and four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Goins of Bramwell, Mrs. Ethel Hatter of Duhring, Mrs. Beatrice Dunn and Mrs. Lillian Owens of Waynesboro, Va.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Bailey Funeral Chapel in Princeton with Rev. Edgar Sigmon officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
