Oren James Barlowe,74, of Nebo, died Wednesday June 23, 1971 in a Buncombe County hospital in Asheville.

He was born November 10, 1896, in Watauga County, North Carolina, and was a son of the late Julius P. and Temperance (Tempie) McClurd Barlow.

In addition to his parents, Oren's first wife, Mary Lizziebell (Bell) Williams Barlowe, preceded him in death.

He was a retired employee of Drexel Furniture Co. with over 30 years of service and his recent employment was with Crestline Furniture Co. at Valdese.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Millie Williams Barlowe; three daughters, Mrs. Goldie Condrey of Asheville, Mrs. Edith Hollifield of Marion and Mrs. Frances Dillingham of Swannanoa; five sons, Omer of Nebo, Ercel of Virginia Beach, Va., Frank of Hickory, Lawrence of Greensboro and Amberse Barlowe of Toledo, Wash.; two brothers, Vernie Barlowe of Marion and Stanley Barlow of Johnson City, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 1971 in Cross Mill Church of God in Marion. The Rev. James Griffin officiated. Burial was in McDowell Memorial Park.
