Omer F. Barlowe, 77, of Nebo, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Hospice House of Burke County.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at Westmoreland Funeral Home.

The funeral was held by the Revs. Bill Long and Milton Hollifield at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Eastside Baptist Church. Burial was in McDowell Memorial Park.

Born March 22, 1921 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Oren James Barlowe and Lizzie Bell Williams Barlowe. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He was retired from Great Lakes Carbon Plant and was also a long-time employee of Cross Cotton Mills. He was a US Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Millie Williams Barlowe.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Baucom Barlowe of the home; two sons, Ray Barlowe and Robert Barlowe; three sisters, Mrs. Edith Hollifield, Mrs. Goldie Condrey and Mrs. Frances Dillingham; four brothers, Ercel Barlowe, Rev. Frank Barlowe, Lawrence Barlowe and Amberse Barlowe; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of Burke County, PO Box 1029, Valdese, NC 28690.
