Ercel Lee Barlowe, 76, of Bybee, TN, died Thursday evening, Sept. 23, 1999, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital.

He was born February 11, 1923 in Watauga County, NC, and was a son of Oren James and Mary Lizziebell (Belle) Williams Barlowe.

He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Omer F. Barlowe.

He was survived by his wife, Allene Brown Barlowe; sons, Thomas James Barlowe, Michael Lee Barlowe and James Carlson; daughters, Ruth Barlowe Williams and Elizabeth Barlowe Hunter; brothers, the Rev. Frank Barlowe, Lawrence Barlowe and Amberse Barlowe; sisters, Goldie Condrey, Edith Hollifield and Frances Dillingham; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Manes Funeral Home, 363 East Main St., Newport, Tenn. 37821.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stokely Chapel Church with the Rev. Dale Hayes and the Rev. Junior Loveday officiating. Burial followed at the Stokely's Chapel Cemetery. Full Military Rites were conducted at the graveside by the US Navy.
