Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 12 Apr 2002: Columbia – Funeral services for L. Maye "Meemie" Koon, 100, formerly of Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 12, 2002, at Reformation Lutheran Church, conducted by the Reverend W. Osborne Herlong, Jr. Interment will be in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Koon's great nephews. Shives Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Koon, widow of Samuel Langford Koon, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002. Born in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Sallie Huffstetler Amick. Mrs. Koon was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church since 1929; she was a former member of the Lutheran Church Women and she worked for Tapp's Department Store as a Corsetier for 25 years. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, to include her niece and caretaker, June Orr Johnson of Waterboro. Mrs. Koon was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.
