Mr. South was born Dec. 26, 1919, at Sarles, N.D., the son of Sylvester and Hannah South. The family moved to Bemidji in 1923, and he had lived here since. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the infantry during World War II and as a paratrooper in Korea. He was a member of the Bemidji Moose Lodge and a life member of the Tri-County VFW Post and the American Legion in Bemidji.
He is survived by two brothers, Lee, Cohasset and Harold, Bemidji; three sisters, Grace Harder, Curtis, Neb., Ida Slough, Bemidji, and Laverne (Robert) Whelan, Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
