BIOGRAPHY:
Mahala was born to David Thomas and Isabella (Racey) Orndorff, his first wife.
Mahala married her first cousin, James Wade Orndorff, January 26, 1830 in Frederick County, Virginia. They were married by minister Robert E. Ferguson. James was the son of David's half brother William and Elizabeth (Cooper) Orndorff.
Eight children were born to this marital union: Elizabeth C., Jemima E., Isabel C., William Harrison, Morgan, Frances A., Mary S., and Mahala.
According to the Land Deeds, Mahala and James Wade with her father, David Thomas Orndorff, went together March 13, 1838 and purchased 324 acres of Hugh's Branch, a place on Slate Rock Run about one and a half miles east of Wardensville. February 11, 1848 James and David separated their land accordingly. Both Mahala and her husband James Wade names are on the deeds.
Mahala, 38, passed away December 31, 1848 and is buried in the Wardensville town cemetery.
