When he became a U.S. citizen, he changed his name to Diedrich C. (middle initial only) Addicks and his nickname was "Dick". He married Mary U. Anstett "Mae" in Stroh, Indiana where he manged a cement plant and she was postmistress and later a pianist for the church. They married on August 4, 1903. Around 1914 they moved to Chunute, Kansas, for about a year then back to Indiana where they bought a farm. They lived on the farm for about 6 years with Mae, their older son and a hired hand doing most of the farming as Dick was more interested in tinkering with machinery. After selling the unprofitable farm, they moved to Kendalville, Indiana. After less than a year there, it was on to Ragland, Alabama. In 1924 they were off to Rockmart, GA where the cement company had a second plant and moved between Ragland and Rockmart until 1927 when a home was established in Rome, GA. There are numerous newspaper articles detailing his abilities as a gunsmith, especially during the depression. Obituaries say that he died in a hospital after a lengthy illness. His youngest daughter recounts that his cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage.
