In 1930 the five of them lived in the same place. Their home was valued at $4000, and they did have a radio. Her father worked as a druggist with a retail drug store.

In 1940 she and her husband and their two children lived in a house they were renting for $25 a month on U.S. Highway 44 in Putnam, CT. He worked as a forester for the U.S. Government, with an income in 1939 of $2000 for 52 weeks of work.
