In 1920 he and his parents and sister lived in apartment #2 at 245 Taylor Avenue in New Kensington, PA. (His sister actually got missed by the census taker, but she surely did live there.) His father worked as a clerk at the aluminum works.

In 1930 he, his parents, his sister, and his father's sister Mary lived in an apartment they were renting for $55 a month in the home of Claremont Sibley at 264 Ridge Avenue in New Kensington. They did have a radio. His father worked as an assistant credit manager for the aluminum company.

In 1940 he and his wife and their two children lived in a house they were renting for $25 a month on U.S. Highway 44 in Putnam, CT. He worked as a forester for the U.S. Government, with an income in 1939 of $2000 for 52 weeks of work.
