William was a son of William Markee, Sr. and Margaret Holland. He married first in 1830 in Harrison Co., Ohio, to Miss Hannah Brown Norris (1809-1840), born on Prince Edward Island. She died as a result of childbirth and in 1842 he married Lousina Smith (1822 - 1892). William was the father of 22 children - 8 by his first wife and 14 by his second. The family moved from Tippecanoe, Harrison Co., Ohio to Illinois in 1859 settling in Schuyler Co. in 1866. William lived out his life on a farm there.
