CHAPPEL.

Abner Chappel died at the family home on Center street Wednesday morning at five o'clock aged 87 years, 5 months and 23 days. He has been in failing health for about two years but has been confined to his bed only the past two weeks.

Mr. Chappel was born in Avon, Livingston County, January 4th, 1819. In 1856 he moved to Perry and in 1860 was married to Martha Booth of that town. Two children were born to them, J. Edward Chappel of this village and Arthur L. who died in 1884. Besides the one son he is survived by his wife, two brothers, Paine Chappel of Oxford Mich. and Perry Chappel of Perry and two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Lomis, Oxford Mich. and Mrs. Eugene Jeffree of LaGrange. Funeral services will be conducted from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. George H. Burgess officiating, with burial at Perry Center.

Mr. Chappel spent most of his life in agriculture, though he was a teacher in his younger days. He well fits the description of a gentleman of the old school, Courtly, dignified, with high ideals, which were carried out in practice. All who knew him esteemed him highly for his many fine qualities.
