From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren:

"Married Lizzie James who had a beautiful singing voice and was an expert whistler. She appeared on early radio programs on station KDKA in Pittsburgh, the world's first radio station. Both William and Bell made their home with Uncle Billy until his death."

In 1870 he lived with his parents, two sisters and a brother on a farm in Toby Township, Clarion County, PA. His father owned real property valued at $1000 and personal property worth $500.

In 1880 he lived with his parents and eight brothers and sisters on a farm in Toby Township--probably the same place.

In 1900 he lived on a farm in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County, PA, with his mother, sisters Nancy and Matilda, and brother Marion.

In 1910 he and his wife and their three children lived on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in the same township.

In 1920 he and Elizabeth and their four children lived on a farm in West Franklin Township. They owned their home, mortgage free. Daughter Eliza was a weaver in the woolen mill.
