LuVerne V. Pankonin was born on May 19, 1925, in Cottonwood County, Minnesota the son of Gustav and Amelia (Nickel). He died on Monday, December 22, 2003, at his residence in Brookings, South Dakota at the age of 78 years.
LuVerne received his education in a rural school in Cottonwood County, near Sanborn, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Juanita L. Johnson on May 15, 1945, in Sanborn. Together they raised their family and farmed in Cottonwood County until their retirement in 1990. In 1991, they moved to Brookings, South Dakota, and have lived here ever since.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation in Brookings. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, traveling, and especially spending time with family and friends.
LuVerne is survived by his wife Juanita of Brookings; one daughter Darlene Goldhammer (Andre) of Elkton, South Dakota; two sons David Pankonin (Joanne) of Elkton, South Dakota, Gary Pankonin (Betsey) of Patterson, New York; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Esther Senst of Pipestone, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son (Robert) and one sister (Clara), four brothers (Walter, Art, Marvin, and Elmer).
Funeral Service: 2 pm, Friday, December 26, 2003, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Joel DeBoer, officiating. Arrangements by Rude's Funeral Home.
