On November 14, 1935, Walter was united in marriage to Florence Gode, by the Reverend W.C. Middlestad. The ceremony took place at the Germantown Evangelical United Brethern Church. From that time, they farmed in the area north of Jeffers for over 30 years. From this marriage, three children were born. Suffering a heart attack in 1965, it became necessary for Walter to decrease his farm activity. In 1967, they moved into Jeffers. Due to his health, Walter and Florence began going to Arizona for the winter months in 1965 and greatly enjoyed their home and friends there for the past 16 years. They, as well, enjoyed the life long home in the Jeffers area. He enjoyed shuffleboard, horsehoe and loved visiting with people. In the summer months, he especially enjoyed being a part of the activities on both of his son's farms, and loved helping them with whatever he could. Walter was known as a wonderful loving husband and father and took great pride in each of his 11 grandchildren. On Wednesday morning, Walter was stricken at home. He was declared dead on arrival at Windom Area Hospital. Through God's grace, Walter had attained the age of 66 years; 9 months and 29 days. Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by 1 brother, Elmer; and 1 sister, Clara Karow. Walter is survived by his loving wife, Florence; 3 children - Warren of Lamberton; Wayne of Sanborn; and Karen (Mrs. Ron McCloud) of Maple Grove; 11 grandchildren 3 brothers and 1 sister--Mrs. Esther Senst of Jeffers; Arthur, Marvin and LuVerne, all of Sanborn. Blessed be the memory of Walter Arnold Pankonin.
