Helen L. Brotherton, age 75, of Luray, Missouri, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Missouri.

She was born February 11, 1928, in Clark County, Missouri, a daughter of James and Alice Billings Dochterman.

She married Alvin C. Brotherton on July 1, 1945, in Memphis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1981.

Survivors include a son, James Brotherton and wife Bonnie, of Kahoka, Missouri; a daughter, Connie Hyde of Luray, Missouri; a brother, Robert Dochterman of Arbela, Missouri; six grandchildren, Joann Hunziker and her husband, Dennis of Kahoka, Missouri, Tammy Johnston and her husband, Jeremy, of Mystic, Iowa, Wendy Brotherton, Jessie Brotherton, and Richard Hyde and his wife, Melissa, all of Kahoka, Missouri, and David Hyde and his wife, Becky, of Luray, Missouri; as well as six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; also brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son-in-law, Howard Hyde; four brothers John, Otho, Clarence and Preston Dochterman; and two sisters, Wavie Waters, and Cleo Hawkins.

Helen was an active member of the Kahoka Chapter #40, Order of Eastern Star, and was well-known around the area through her involvement in Stars. She also was a member of the Combs Cemetery Board and the AARP. She was a farm wife and enjoyed her life on the farm caring for the cattle and her flowers and garden. She was also well known for her hand quilting.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Clayton Peak officiating. Special music was recordings "In The Garden" and "Holes in the Floor of Heaven". Pallbearers were: Harold Trump, Jesse Forquer, Ronnie Dochterman, Allen Dochterman, James Dochterman, and Russell Brotherton. Burial was in Combs Cemetery at Luray.

Memorials were suggested to the Combs Cemetery or to the family choice. Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
