Born July 6, 1928, near Fowler, he graduated from Gilboa High School near Remington. He had lived in the Lafayette area for 30 years and resided at 1016 S Ninth St. He was employed at Fairfield for 32 years before being disabled.
Mr. Dowell was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of Fairfield Athletic Association; Sons of American Legion Post 11; Star City Corvette Club; and Lafayette Historical Auto Club.
His marriage was Aug 16, 1947, in Fowler, to Geneva Marie Abbott, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Barry (Cathy) Fountain of Coral Springs, Fla; a son, Robert A. Dowell of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Keely Ann Fountain and Ashley Christine Dowell; a sister Mrs. Wayne (Lois) Cooper of Goodland; and a brother, Paul L. Dowell of Remington. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Erman L. Dowell and William D. Dowell; and an infant sister, Betty Jane.
