BAXTER Funeral services for Martha Ojeal Jernigan, 79, of Baxter, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family is currently receiving friends at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jernigan died on Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1923, in Putnam County to the late Joseph Washington and Lucy Herd Maxwell. Mrs. Jernigan was a homemaker and a member of Baxter Crossroads Church of God.
Her family includes two sons and daughtersinlaw, Lannie Dwain and Sharon Kay Jernigan of Monterey, Ricky Jernigan of Oklahoma, and Jeanette Jernigan of Oklahoma; two sisters, Alene Thomas of Cookeville and Mary Wilkerson of Michigan; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; and four step greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenis Clarence Jernigan, who died on April 11, 1995; a son, Glen L. Jernigan; a grandson, Randy Jernigan; four sisters, Elzo Gambrell, Dean Shores, Lorene Jared and Joyce Whitefield; and four brothers, Odell, Everett, Fletcher and Alton Maxwell.
